Jeffrey M. Lamberti, local attorney and owner of the Iowa Barnstormers, is known for working to save the World War II battleship USS IOWA from destruction and helping turn it into a top rated museum at the Los Angeles Waterfront. He will speak to our chapter about his work to rally the support of Iowans to save the iconic USS IOWA and turning it into very popular tourist attraction.

Rated by CBS Los Angeles as one of the “Best Cool Exhibits to See With Your Kids”, USS IOWA hosts hundreds of thousands of visitors per year from all over the world. Many come from Iowa and, thanks to the tireless effort and financial support the state has provided to the battleship, Iowans can tour the ship for free.

USS IOWA is the West Coast’s only Battleship open to the public. Operated by the nonprofit Pacific Battleship Center (PBC), the IOWA opened on July 7, 2012 as an interactive naval museum at the L.A. Waterfront dedicated to “Celebrating the American Spirit” through the preservation and interpretation of the Battleship IOWA.

Part of the “Iowa class” of battleships, USS IOWA is considered one of the fastest and most heavily armored ships of their time. It could launch eight Tomahawk cruise missiles and its gun turrets are almost 67 feet long and each of its barrels can shoot a ton of high explosives 26 miles.

President George H. W. Bush is the honorary chairman of the PBC board while Jeff Lamberti serves as the board chairman.

Back in Iowa, Mr. Lamberti is managing partner of the Lamberti, Gocke and Luetje Law Firm. He served in the Iowa Legislature from 1995-2006, including three years as President of the Iowa Senate. He has extensive experience in state government affairs as well as state and federal campaigns and he currently serves as the Chair of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.

Outside of his law practice, Mr. Lamberti also serves as the President of the Iowa Barnstormer Arena Football Team and is a member of the Board of Directors of Casey’s General Stores, Inc.
