Member Spotlight: Tori Clausen
1. Tell me a little about yourself.
I graduated from Drake University in 2019 with undergraduate degrees in public relations and rhetoric, and a minor in business. Right now, I am currently in Drake’s MBA program. I have been in Des Moines since college and currently live in South Des Moines with my husband, two dogs and three birds.
2. What drew you to public relations in the first place?
I thought public relations fit because I really enjoy the writing, research and creativity. Initially, I was drawn to public relations because I really enjoyed the classes and learning about it.
3. What has your career path looked like? What is your current role?
I started my career in public affairs. After that, I worked in corporate marketing. For the last few years, I have been in more traditional public relations roles. Currently, I am the Community Communications Manager at Athene, where I help drive the public relations and communications for Athene’s corporate philanthropy, sponsorships, culture and recruitment.
4. How did you get involved with PRSA Iowa?
I just signed up for PRSA Iowa initially to get my Certificate in Principles of Public Relations after college. Going through the APR process is when I got more involved with the organization. I currently serve as Treasurer on the PRSA Iowa Board of Directors.
5. What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?
Say yes to opportunities when you can. New opportunities are usually a really great chance to grow and learn, so when they come up, take advantage of them.
6. What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I like to read and spend time with my family, friends and pets.
