Tell me a little about yourself.

Hello! 👋 I'm a Des Moines native working in the agency world. When I'm not at work, I'm busy taking care of my identical twin boys who just turned five. As a millennial, one of my favorite things to talk about is coffee — so go ahead and roast me for fitting that stereotype! ☺️

What drew you to public relations in the first place?

I always knew I loved to write and was interested in finding a way to incorporate that skill into my job. I ended up studying public relations at Marquette University. This led me to different internships and opportunities that have shaped my career up until this point.

What has your career path looked like? What is your current role?

I've been lucky enough to hold communications roles within three very different categories — nonprofit, corporate and agency. Within those roles, I've gained experience in B2B industrial and manufacturing, publicly traded financial services, healthcare and higher education sectors. Right now, I'm working as a PR & Content Strategy Manager at Two Rivers Marketing (a B2B marketing agency in downtown Des Moines). My career has certainly had its twists and turns but I'm truly grateful for every experience because it's made me a more well-rounded, curious communicator which, I think, helps me to better serve my clients.

How did you get involved with PRSA Iowa?

I was involved in Marquette's PRSSA chapter in college and attended PRSA Iowa events when I moved back to the Des Moines area. I've recently gotten more involved because Two Rivers Marketing helps support our membership and encourages our participation on boards and committees.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?

"Hard writing makes for easy reading." I probably take too much time to understand and dissect a subject so I can put the information back together in a way that makes it a better experience for the reader.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I don't have a lot of free time at this stage of my life, but I love reading to my boys and watching them experience far-off worlds and new adventures through a book the same way I did when I was a kid. It's the best part of my day.
