September is Ethics Month
Each September, PRSA brings attention to the importance of ethics in the practice of public relations, which is the core foundation of our industry. While it seems trite to say that “Now more than ever, we need to focus on ethics in communication,” it REALLY matters in our world right now. This month, I encourage you to set an intention to gain and share knowledge that can help further the understanding of the importance of ethical practices in the public relations field:
- Set a goal to participate in two webinars. PRSA.org has a curated list of live and recorded webinar events for the month.
- Consider holding a lunch and learn in your organization as a way to share about the importance of ethical practices in business communications. PRSA.org has many resources to help guide you.
- Register for PRSA Iowa’s quarterly luncheon on September 12, “Strategies for Combating Misinformation.” Dr. Michael Bugeja will present on the ethical responsibility of AI.
As business communicators, we are the voices of our organizations. For that reason, we need to take the lead in teaching others what ethical communication looks like and to aspire to conduct ourselves with the highest level of ethical practice every day.
