Diving Into Ethics in College

During two recent visits to PRSSA Chapters at Iowa State University and Drake University, PRSA Iowa leaders discussed ethics with students in attendance. 

Dawn Buzynski, APR, and Ryan Johnson, APR, visited PRSSA Chapters in September as PRSA celebrated Ethics Month. During the visits, Dawn and Ryan discussed the PRSA Code of Ethics, the importance of ethics in public relations and how PR practitioners manage ethical situations. 

At both campuses, the students in attendance were attentive and asked questions, not only about ethics but about our roles as PR professionals in 2024—questions centered around artificial intelligence, misinformation and challenges working with the media in today’s landscape.

“I left encouraged by the attendance and the enthusiasm of attendees,” Ryan said. “Working in an agency, I presented ethical dilemmas challenging new and seasoned professionals, and how the PRSA Code of Ethics can help guide us through difficult situations.”
